Although not much to look at from the outside, this pub has a fantastic feel to it, with great food and exceptional beer, thanks to the close proximity to the Dark Star brewery, for which it is the official 'brewery tap'.
A big, welcoming main room with a charming fireplace. It also has a good size garden, part of which overlooks the road, which detracts slightly, but it's still a great feature in the summer. The staff are friendly and knowledgeable about the beer. Being the Dark Star brewery tap, you can buy merchandise, which somehow adds to the charm.
A brilliant array of Dark Star and various other beers. There are normally around 6 ales (mostly Dark Star) on tap and several other bottles in the fridge.
Simple, but excellent food menu, which uses local suppliers, listed on the menu. Well prepared and good value, although worth noting the Sunday roasts are a little on the small side.
