Describing itself as 'the best night out in the area' (which seems odd for an old pub, mostly populated with pensioners!), this lively country pub in Cootham, just outside Storrington is warm and welcoming. It's a bit of a drive from our house (about 10-15 mins), but we've become quite fond of the Storrington area and it's worth the trip.
Warm and cosy in the bar area, with a roaring fire, old wooden beams and of course lots of horse brasses. We have been before at the weekend during the day and sat in the restaurant area, which is spacious and has lots of windows, feeling almost conservatory-like, with a view out over the large tree-filled garden. It has a 70's-80's feel to it, which is quite endearing.
Decent little selection of ales on tap, specifically: 6X (which is what I drank), Spitfire and Harvey's. Angie enjoyed her glass of rosé!
We had the pies of the day: chicken & mushroom and steak & mushroom. They are mostly meat & gravy, with no side or bottom, but a flaky pastry lid. Accompanied by 3 veg in a separate dish & new potatoes. Very nice and certainly filling! A pretty expansive menu with all the usual pub classics - prices are reasonable.
